19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hardcourt

A comeback the Russian player won his initial title for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a torrid season, achieving just a single victory at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in especial - led to him falling of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with long-time coach Cervara.

Currently training with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

This represents the player's maiden title since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt after spring of the previous year.

The win also means he has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one different tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters at once, so to win a championship is particularly special," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, including in that event previously this season.

His counter-punching approach and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had led some to doubt if his capacity to compete at the highest level was over.

However the player has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to come to the net and compete positively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, taking 4 of the last five points to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial tour championship, gained dominance to push for a final set.

The opponent defended 4 early-game opportunities in a competitive third set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the title with a shot at the net area, with Moutet failing to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
